It took me some time to find a few treasurable books on the subject, so I thought I should make a list for let's say...Lilfairy, and Adelie of course, and every one interested in beautiful patterns! It's nice to know I'm not the only one to love the amazing, delicate, japanese patterns for papers. I wish I was more of an expert, but here are my favourite books:

2 books with CDroms

  ❀❀❀❀❀ Agile Rabbit Japanese Patterns book with cdrom. Easy to use  in Photoshop layer masks, in black and white with 3 different levels of resolutions. I love this book so much I took it with me to California in my luggage.

❀❀❀❀❀The Yuzen Japaneses paper. Very difficult to find, quite expensive, but lovely. You will find 100 color plates, most of them very useful for illustration purposes. Pick this one if you want a collage effect with the real chiyogami colors, or if you want to print some for origami fun.

A small book with colour plates. A very nice one, but the size of the book doesn't allow access to small details, even if  some  are sometimes magnified. Though, it's one of my favourite purse books. It's small and very inspirational, the kind of book you can study in the train. The publisher has a whole collection of little books about patterns, unfortunately I wasn't able to decipher the titles.

Little spoon is a translation for the French name for Coffee spoon and Moka Spoon. I can't really taste yogurt, or pot de creme, or even a simple egg a la coque with a tea spoon. It goes too fast. Tiny spoon make tasty tiny bits. Thank you so much Maman for sending these to me!

Note: où l'on voit d'où je tiens mon sens ultratigu du detail. Ma Maman cherie a pesé mon paquet au gramme près, et au lieu de papier de soie, a utilisé du Chirimen. J'ai failli fondre en l' ouvrant, mais heureusement je m'attendais a une surprise, je connais ma Maman.

Mes paquets à moi sont toujours en retard, ils attendent patiement que j'ai le temps d'aller faire la queue a la poste a l'autre bout du quartier. Parceque les trucs sur lesquels je travaille n'attendent pas, eux.

Cette image la je l'ai commencee un jour de 96 sur la baie de Sf , un jour ou je trouvais que Paris etait loin...Je l'ai continuee a Paris en 2003, un jour ou je trouvais San Francisco tres loin...Et je la continue aujourd'hui, un jour ou Paris parait tres loin.

Pour les Parisiens: Si vous cherchez de jolis carnets. Il y a carrefour de L'Odeon, dans la suite de la rue de l'Odeon une boutique ravissante pleine de bonnes surprises et de carnets colores.D'ailleurs si vous trouvez le nom ca m'interesse.  Et sinon si vous voulez du bon il n'y a rien de tel que Sennelier . Je ne suis jamais allee a la boutique Skripta....Mais j'ai bien envie de visiter a mon prochain voyage a Paris!

We almost had a catastrophy on Non dairy Diary: I couldn't find my favourite analog journal anymore ( Florentine color paper, butter soft chic colors leather cover) on the SF Moma museum webstore  (don't even try to order from Europe, it's five time the price of the journal to send it)  I must admit I freaked out a little bit. OK: I completely freaked out.The Non diary Diary on ordinary white sketchbook, it's like going back from Caffe Roma Moka to soluble coffe in cold water. Yeurk. I looked everywhere on the net until I found who was really doing my journals: it's an Italian brand called CIAK . This doesn't gave me my journal ...unless I want to buy a hundred of those, but I wanted only 4 to 6. So I continued my researches, to find out that I was not the only one interested into the quest of the perfect journal. Some even blog about it , as journalissimo , or papersnobbery for exemple.  Finally I found some  at Flax , and bought enough for filling with toughts the Non dairy Diary for a year. Saved! Desolee je suis en  retard...J'ai mis un point d'honneur a fabriquer tous mes cadeaux de Noel ou presque: cela m'a pris du temps. D'ordinaire je commence en Octobre mais bon la heu comment dire entre le mariage et les fuiteus dans le toit j'ai pas eu trop le temps ;) Mais j'ai presque fini!

Ca c'est la photo d'une premier fournee, il y aura d'autres sortes de brimborions aussi. En tous cas c'est une franche idee, je me suis remise a faire des choses avec mes petits doigts!

I don't know if it's an American tradition, or SF fun, but we've been invited to 2 Secret Santa's party this holiday season.

You bring some nice or crapy gifts and then you fight to get a nice one, basically.
I tried to make some funny but cute ones:

Je ne sais pas si c'est une tradition americaine ou juste un amusement San Franciscain, mais nous avons ete invites a deux fetes "Pere Noel Secret" cette saison.
Chacun apporte un cadeau, bien ou moche (souvent moche) et le jeu est de recuperer quelquechose de chouette.  J'ai eu de la chance la derniere fois j'ai gagne celui qu'avait fait Sam, et il etait rien chouette:

Et heu en effet cela a plu :)  mais il a fallu que j'explique que c'etait pas des vraies marques..."J'en ai marre des fetes grasses "  et "fait a san Francisco avec une vraie gueule de bois" ce sont pourtant des noms de marques bizarres non?

We prepared it on a very sunny day...It was kind of weird, I'm not used to Christmas in flip flop and Tshirts, but we worked hard to give the party a real Xmas feeling.

And really it was an uncommon warm day to trim a tree. But the feeling was there anyway!

And the best was to come

Sweet Sam reinvented "buche de Noel " for us. "I'm trying to beat the French on their own field " she joked. We were a bit worried when she filled our plates with big piece of the cake...It looked good but we had a very nice and unhealthy diner before. And then we finished our plates with great delight and admitted that is was the best buche ever!

Donc voila, un joli Noel au soleil, avec sur la fin une merveilleuse genoise au chocolat tres legere entourant une creme fouette pralinee...Euh j'aime pas les desserts, et puis je blogue pas trop ma vie mais la holala...D'habitude la buche c'est du ciment a la creme au beurre et celle la c'etait un petit nuage!

Her are the light strands you almost escaped...I always found the sock tradition weird.
In France we put our shoes under the tree ...I guess Santa doesn't mind the smell. Hopefully.

Voici les animations auxquelles vous avez failli echapper... La premiere et la deuxieme sont des dedicaces a une gentille fee qui a fait des cadeaux a tout le monde que c'est epatant dis-donc...La derniere est pour mon radiologiste prefere, il se reconnaitra.

A cette periode de l'annee on fete le retour prochain de la lumiere, l'espoir d'un nouveau printemps...Moi cela me donne envie de mettre des lumieres partout, en porte bonheur.

Alors j'ai sorti ma boite a gif (un tuto ici) et j'ai fait ces quelques guirlandes que l'on peut mettre cote a cote (elles sont sans coutures). En cliquant dessus vous avez une version plus grande. Bon pour la guirlande suivante je sais elle cherche le supa-kitsch mais si on fait pas kitsch a Noel je vois pas quand on peut faire kitsch?
