Baby is not here yet, maybe this week-end?
My hands are so swollen I can't draw any more, but I just got a parcel of vintage Woman's day magazines and I will have a lot of fun reading them, as soon as the cat will be kind enough to let me use my armchair.
Cabbage Patch post
Sometimes I can't stop and my pictures become so detailed they could be cut in tiny pieces to make more pictures that could be cropped and ...
By the way, I'm due these days, don't worry if there is no posts for some times!
Chiyo momo
Momo pattern flowers inspired by a bouquet of spring branches Yoko gave me.
I loved to watch the blossoms opening!
Our theme for March is momo (もも, peach flower).
Chiyogami Monday
Chiyogami Monday is a cute project Lilfary put on a year ago. I really enjoy participating. We are a group of (mostly) French artists, and we find the Japananese "chiyogami" prints so beautiful that we decided to try to make some of our own. The best way to study is to practice!
It's an ancient tradition between France and Japan to be inspired by eachother.
Chiyogami Monday published a brochure at Lulu.com
It's not a big one, but every page is cute, with patterns and articles from Adelie , B comme Bérénice, Charlie pOp, Doune, LaureVolume, lilfairy, Miss Trop, and myself.
It's a bit expensive, but it's home publication, no advertising, and a lot of hard work from our director, Lilfairy ( thanks for the hard work sweetheart).
This numero is all about Kotori ( small bird in Japanese). It's written in French and translated in English, too.
I'm very excited about it!
Our theme for March is momo (もも, fleur de pecher).
Sirène à colorier
From time to time I look at the google queries leading to the Non dairy Diary.
Most of the time you were looking for me, thanks! Another common query is Photoshop Brushes and Tutorials , so I created a special category. Then there is cute queries, like "happy bunny" "blue bird" and so. One I noticed 2 years ago and coming again and again is "mermaid colorbook". While there is tons of happy bunnies and blue birds on the Non Dairy, I can't remember drawing a mermaid to play with. So I opened my "carnet magique" and draw one especially for you.
Here it is, you can download the picture, print it or import it in your favorite graphic software and add the colors you feel like. You can show the color result on your blog if you have one, but please don't put the black and white original picture, and be kind enough to add a link to the Non dairy Diary , thanks!
Enjoy!

Le Luxembourg, or Le Luco, is a garden in Paris' Left Bank.
It's the place where I used to play when I was a little girl, and hang out when I was a teenager.
When springtime is in the air I always miss my beautiful garden.
And No, I never ever was blonde, ever. It's not me on the picture.
We are moving on Tuesday, I won't be able to post this week, have a nice week!

A fish, a butterfly...A bird?
Have a good week-end!
Aging your patterns
Now you know how to make your own patterns ( a tutorial here). But still, they have this peculiar digital look and you would be very pleased to add a little texture to give them more reality. I'm going to show you today 2 very quick ways to age your patterns.
1.First, scan a sheet of paper. Colors are better, a lot of grain is welcome. Cut a square the exact size of your pattern ( here 256x256 pixels). Or half, third if you want to repeat it. I make all my patterns in a restricted array of sizes to be able to mix and match (512x512, 256x512, etc).

2. Apply the filter>offset with (here ) an offset of 128 pixels. A seam will appear in the middle of your picture. Make it invisible with the stamp tool or the healing brush tool to create a seamless pattern. Then you can make the grain more visible with one of the Sharpen filters. 3. Aging with no change of the original picture colors. Desaturate your picture ( ⌘+shift + U) 4. copy and paste this texture in a new layer over your pattern ( here my bird pattern). Set the layer in overlay mode in the layer palette. Change the transparency of the layer to your taste, et voila! A bird pattern on paper. Here is another solution: 3. Aging and yellowing the picture. Prepare your paper texture as in (1) and (2). Then using Image>adjustments>curves and Image>adjustments>hue saturation, change your texture to a pale yellow one with a lot of grain.
can you see the difference with the precedent picture?
Then apply the filter>Other>High Pass. Set the radius so the picture keeps only the grain. Too large of a radius will create a seam. This filter keeps the grain and equalize the picture to a medium gray.

4.Copy and paste this texture in a new layer over your pattern ( here my bird pattern). Set the layer in multiply mode in the layer palette. Change the transparency of the layer to your taste, et voila! A bird pattern on paper, with just enough of yellow to make it look vintage.
